Real Stories: Smarter Senior Seminar, My Downsizing Connection

I attended several of Mike’s Smarter Senior Seminars at the Orange County Library in Orlando, Florida, and the seminar on downsizing really hit home with me.

I knew that downsizing would soon become a reality for me after my husband was diagnosed with dementia. After several years as his caregiver, his needs became more than I could manage without jeopardizing my own health. I knew it was time to start planning for the next chapter of my life.

My first step was to contact Mike because of his extensive network of trusted senior resources. He connected me with a senior placement service and recommended an elder law attorney to help ensure everything was in order for the future.

Later, after a health setback required me to stop driving for six months, I reached out to Mike again for guidance with downsizing and preparing my home for sale.

Mike arranged for a pre-listing appraisal, which he paid for out of pocket, to help determine the best strategy for getting the most value from my home. After all, a home is often a family’s largest financial investment.

He guided me through the liquidation process and then listed my home for sale. Within just five days on the market, I received a full-price offer!

When the buyers’ home inspection identified several items that needed attention, Mike stepped in to coordinate the necessary resources and help obtain pricing for the recommended repairs and replacements. He made what could have been another stressful part of the process much easier to navigate.

At the same time, Mike helped me find a new place to live that would put me closer to the memory care community where my husband resided.

He recommended an independent 55+ active adult community and arranged a tour. I knew by the very next day that it was the right fit for me. The community offered daily activities and the opportunity to be surrounded by other residents in my age group.

Even after the sale of my home, I continue to have questions about senior living and aging-related decisions. Whenever I need advice or additional resources, I still reach out to Mike.

This is just part of how Mike guided me through the process of downsizing. He helped me navigate not only the sale of my home but also the many important decisions that come with planning for the next chapter of life.

I would highly recommend Mike to any senior or active adult looking for someone they can trust to help navigate the many decisions that come with aging.

His knowledge, compassionate guidance, and network of trusted connections made an extremely difficult and emotional time in my life much less stressful.

Thank you, Mike, for helping me move forward with confidence, peace of mind, and the support I needed every step of the way!
